Golden Gate Canyon Trail Run
12.7mi Course: Run through aspen and
pine forests, and alpine meadows, with spectacular views of the
continental divide. The trail is a challenging
mix of single-track trails and 4wd roads, with a short, non-technical
rock scrambling section.Course Description Route: Held at 8,260'-9,500', ~12.7mi 1, 2,480' 1 of climbing. That includes a ~600' climb, in ~2/3 mi, about 8.5 mi into the course, with a short hands over feet scrambling section up the last 70'. The scramble does not involve any technical climbing or have any exposed drop offs. Same course as in 2006. 1The distance was measured on 6/18/06, with a Jones-Oerth counter, the deviced used to certify courses. Elevation was measured 10/05, with a Polar 625X HR monitor. The course will be extremely well marked on race day, and have mile markers. Aid stations: Four aid stations at approximately 2.4, 5½, 8.33, and 10.35 miles. At least two of the aid stations will have sports drink and/or gels. Time Limit: 3:00. There will be a 2 hour cut off at the Bootleg Bottom aid station, 8.33 mi. Spectators: There will be limited opportunites for viewing and picture taking along the course. Details will be posted later, and instructions will be given after the start.
